My Weekend

I went to the Minnesota State Fair this weekend. This was my first time attending the fair as we have only been here a little over a year. The weather was perfect sunny, but not too hot with the occasional breeze.

The food was abundant and expensive 4 bucks for a pretzel, it was huge but 4 bucks for some bread was a little much and it was more if you wanted garlic butter or cheese. They had everything you wanted to eat on a stick according to a co-worker they have over items on a stick; spaghetti & meatballs, cheese, apples, pork chops, pickles and of course corn dogs. Not just any corn dogs but, 18 inch corn dogs (you can do a lot with that much meat). They also had grilled corn in the cob, french fries and fajitas amoung other tantilizing treats for the tastes buds.

There were also lots of aninmals, smelly cows and sheep, horses, rabbits, turkeys and ducks. I had no idea that there were 12 different classes of chicken and each class is divided by breed and each breed by variety and here I thought a chicken was a chicken. They also had a baby buffalo named Josephine, that was a rare treat for me. I closest I had ever come to a buffalo was on Animal Planet.

Of course every vender under the sun was selling their wears; pools cues, Birkenstocks, custom made cowboy boots and hats, jewerly, hand made flags, wood carvings, clothing, motorcycles, gourmet cookware, vitamins, Christmas trees, ornaments and only God knows what else. The things people will make and sell. The things people like me will buy only to discover packed in a box years later and wonder what the hell is this and where did it come from?

Of course there were the people. I saw some really scary people and some even scarier tattoos. There was this really concervative looking woman with this huge thing tattooed on her body; thats the only way I describe it. It started on her inthe middle of her back and appeared to wrap around her chest and up her neck. Don't get me wrong I happen to like tattoos, especailly on men but there is a such thing as overkill. I recently heard someone say that in about 40 years there will be hords of old tattooed women, me included. Just picture having to lift and smooth all that wrinkled, sagging skin to tell your grand or even greatgrand kids what you had tattooed on your upper arm 30 years before. Remember that your upper arm is now your elbow.

I have a four year old, so you know that I spent the better part of my time in the Kidsway. The area where all the rides are. My son rode everyride he could at least twice and he had better, 30 bucks for 54 ride tickets.

In summary, a fun time was had by all and I look forward to next year. If you live in Minnesota you should go to at least see how many different foods thay have on a stick.
